About Charities Liability Insurance

Charity trustees have responsibilities which may carry liabilities. They can be made responsible for any breaches of the law in the conduct of their charity, these include:

  • liability for breach of their trust or fiduciary obligations under both trust or company law; Liable for any breaches of the criminal law they commit in the course of their trusteeship
  • liable under civil law to third parties for breaches of contract or for infringement of  rights.

Charity trustees are responsible for what they do and also for liability arising from what they may have omitted to do. They may also be liable for the actions or omissions of employees, volunteers or others working under their guidance. They can even be liable for the acts or omissions of employees and volunteers even if they have not sanctioned such act or omission.
